The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested its deputy inspector and a defender based in Nagpur for allegedly trying to influence the investigation of the corruption allegations of former Maharashtra State Minister Anil Deshmukh.
The deputy inspector was identified as Abhishek Tiwari. The lawyer is being taken to Delhi for remand. “The CBI has filed a lawsuit against its deputy inspector, a defender in Nagpur, and other unknown persons, allegations including illegal gratification. searches were conducted in Allahabad and Delhi,” a CBI official said.
The move was made a few days after the alleged part of the report prepared by the International Whaling Commission’s preliminary investigation of Mr. Deshmukh on the instructions of the Mumbai High Court was leaked and disseminated. Later, the agency launched an internal investigation to determine responsibility.
