After the rise in corona cases china puts lockdown to a city of 4.5 million population in south eastern province of Fujian. Maintaining its strict zero tolerance approach to covid -19 the lockdown has been imposed.
According to the city’s almanac residents of Xiamen which is a manufacturing hub for electronic components in scenic coastal city and companies including ABB Ltd. and Schneider Electric SE have been banned from leaving other than in exceptional circumstances. The government has closed all residential compounds, villages, tourist city – including cinemas, bars, gym, and libraries were closed.
Latest outbreak which include 103 cases has yet to escape from Fujian province of china. Father of a local students is considered as a origin of this infection. The first cases were detected from two students during a routine testing. In August he returned from overseas and was also infected from corona virus.
The fast and furious measures which is taken by local authorities reflect the difficulty of containing the more transmissible delta variant and the escalation China needs to undertake to sustain its Covid Zero status. The experts of national health team has termed this outbreak as a “spillover risk”.
Further adding he told that the city at the epicenter of the current outbreak, is in a “tough and complicated” situation. More than 30,000 people have left putian in last August although no cases from outside been found. From coming Tuesday all kindergartens, primary and middle schools in Xiamen will be closed, and students have been asked to attend classes online.
