Navjot Singh Sidhu, who resigned as the Chief of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) , released a video message saying that, he will continue to fight for the truth till his last breath . His resignation has raised serious question over the grand old party’s leadership, and threw the crisis ridden state into deeper turmoil.
The cricketer turned politician’s move was followed by the resignation of State Minister and at least three party functionaries.
While Punjab Chief Minister, Charanjit Singh Channi, reached out to Sidhu in an attempt to pacify him, the former Congress Chief made it clear that he will stand by his decision. However, the Chief Minister said that he “trust’s and has full confidence in Sidhu Sahab” and further added ĺthat he had no knowledge about Sidhu’s resignation.
With the sudden resignation by Navjot Singh Sidhu, senior Congress leader and former Union Minister, Ashwani Kumar, told that, this decision has taken the Congress Party by surprise.
Meanwhile, with the unfolding of the political drama just ahead of the crucial assembly election in the state, the opposition party took up the opportunity to hit on the Congress. Even the G23 leaders are showing concerns over the recent political tussle.
Sidhu took to Twitter and posed question over the appointment of director general of police, advocate general and “tainted ” Leaders .
Posting a video message on Twitter, Sidhu said that his objective has always been to improve the lives of people and to “make a difference”.
While it’s too early to say whether Sidhu’s decision could torment the Congress ahead of 2022 Punjab Assembly Election, but the move has surely stirred controversial issue.
